Manage Wi-Fi Quality of Service (QoS)

Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology which provides us with high speed Internet servicesfor our homes and workspaces. Wi-Fi allows several devices to connect to the internet at once and provides each device with the same network quality. Wi-Fi is widely used in personal and professional settings for quick and easy access to the internet and connectivity between devices in a particular area. Quality of Service (QoS) is the account of the performance of a service such as a computer network or a cloud computing system experienced by the users. It refers to traffic prioritization and control mechanisms for resource reservation. It is the ability to provide unique priority and attention to each application and user.

When multiple devices are connected to one Wi-Fi network, there is a competition for bandwidth among them. For example, a large download like a season of a television series will hog more bandwidth than watching a YouTube video. This accounts for unequal distribution of bandwidth among devices and slows down the performance of some devices. A router with Quality of Service technology can prevent such unequal distribution of bandwidth, thus allowing each device to enjoy sufficient access to the network and carry out their functions effectively. Employing QoS technology helps you prioritize your network traffic. It makes your network performance more predictable and bandwidth performance more efficient. There are several reasons why you should employ QoS technology in your homes and workspaces. It makes online gaming and other artificial intelligence and visual reality activities smoother and much faster. It makes sure that there are no glitches or disturbances in video calling, which makes it very important for people who rely on virtual meetings for business. It allows you to restrict or control how much bandwidth each device is allowed to use for efficient network distribution among all connected devices. It is also yseful in prioritizing PC traffic over traffic from other devices.

There are mainly two types of QoS when it comes to Wi-Fi systems. They are Wi-Fi Multimedia (WFMM) and Bandwidth Control. Wi-Fi Multimedia is the simplest, most straightforward form of QoS. It works only with Wi-Fi traffic and allows smooth functioning of audio, video streaming and gaming activities. Bandwidth Control allows you to set the minimum and maximum range of bandwidth using IP addresses. It is the more sophisticated form of Bandwidth Control.

Configuration of QoS can be a tricky task. It requiresupdated knowledge of protocols, a deep understanding of router operations and networking as a concept. However some QoS technologies have become entirely automatic, making it easier for them to be applied.

Quality of Service has become very important for Wi-Fi systems in homes and workspaces nowadays to ensure better connectivity and equal distribution of bandwidth.
